You're seeing a moment, not someone's whole journey.

Hi! I'm Violet ♡
I'm 12 years old, I dance almost every day, and dance is honestly one of the biggest parts of my life. I love learning new choreography, competing, performing and being with my dance friends. Even after a long day at school, dance is something that makes me happy.
Social media can be amazing for dancers. I've learnt so many things by watching dance videos online, and seeing talented dancers from around the world really inspires me. Sometimes a video makes me want to get up straight away and try something new!
But there's another side to it. I've seen some really mean comments about dancers who are just doing something they love, and it can be horrible to read. I also catch myself comparing my dancing to other people's videos and wondering why I can't do something as well as they can. Even though I know I'm probably watching their best take, it's hard not to compare.
So I wanted to do something about it.
For my school project about how social media affects dance, I decided I didn't just want to talk about the problems. I wanted to make something that could actually help.
That's why I created Dance Connect: a positive space where young dancers can feel inspired without worrying about likes, followers, mean comments or whether they're as good as somebody else.
You can discover your dance superpower, try a fun challenge and find confidence tips for those days when dancing feels a bit scary or difficult. There's no competition here. Everyone has something special to bring to dance.
I still love getting inspiration online. I just think we should be able to enjoy dance content without it making us feel bad about ourselves.
That you leave feeling happier, braver and ready to dance — because dance should bring you joy, not make you doubt yourself.
Less comparing. More dancing. ♡
Why it matters
Social media can help young dancers learn, connect and get inspired. But constant comparison, negative comments and the pressure to look perfect can take away from what we love. Dance Connect is my way of turning my research into something positive: practical advice, encouraging messages and activities that get us moving instead of endlessly scrolling.
Dance Connect is a student project, not a social network. There are no accounts, public comments, photo uploads or follower counts. If something online is upsetting you, speak with a trusted adult.
